Google’s PageRank system is a must know for all webmasters new and old. This system is a process in which google uses to determine how useful your site it. Now overall pr doesn’t mean anything it doesn’t give you more income or less. The only solid thing that comes out of pr (PageRank) is a better sell of the site/domain. Don’t get me wrong there are several webmasters out there that will say pr is the most important thing and the maker of revenue. I agree to some extent, basically I feel pr gives you better quality ads and the better ranking helps and attracts more traffic. For example in my line of work everyone wants to be promoted on a pr something or another. So in my experience most webmasters find the pr top notch and extremely important.
A lot of webmaster will disagree and say its all on the content. So here’s what I’ll do, I will explain how your pr is formed and some plus and bonus of a higher pr. You can decide for yourself how important it is. The last Google pr was June 24Th, 2009, by the way. Here’s how Google determines your pr, they simply search the net for all the links that are associated with your site. For every do follow link you get rated higher. So to make a long explanation short the more links you have out there the better the pr you will have. There’s a catch though if you spent 5 hours a day for the next 3 months your bound to run into a problem with Google. They penalize you for trying to spam and etc. So take it careful, here’s a tip that alot of webmasters use, post your link on all sites that are do follow and have a higher pr.
See if you have a high pr Google thinks your site is extremely important which is why Facebook, and Myspace have higher Pr’s like 9 if not 10’s. So posting your link on a higher pr gives you a bit more attention from google. If you promote through your signature on say forums or blog commenting you can get some good back links which will overall boost your pr. As mentioned earlier the majority of my clients want to be promoted on higher Pr’s. So whether you think its important my personal experience tells me that you will get traffic just from that pr so try and promote within google’s guidelines and terms.
Every pr update can make your site grow, shrink or stay. So in more English based terms your site could go up in pr or go down. Some people just stay the same. Going up is great going down isn’t so great. So try and promote your site as much as you can.
This entry may have been a little vague and not have explained a whole lot but during this week I will be making an entry that will explain in more detail.
